When the Kids are Down and the Adults Are Left Outside

Cameron and Dada have a super favourite game you might have seen back here, and a while ago, when playing this game, they stuck the blue football up a tree. I wasn’t bothered at the time, that kind of thing happens, and hey, we wreck stuff, but then I started being able to see it from my seat at the dinner table. I started to feel for the football, up there so soon after being brought outside for the summer season, and so one night after the boys went to sleep, Arras I decided to set the ball free. Expecting this activity to be as accident-prone, injury-prompting, and laughter fit-inducing as these fiascos always are, I brought the camera. Alas, Arras has brilliant aim – had it be me trying to get it down, I’d be in hospital writing this post, but Arras nailed it in two shots, and posed for the victory shot.

I can still hear the rocking of the cradle from which I robbed him.

First a little dressing up for a wedding in the afternoon, after a fine morning spent on the golf course (Jackson and I sported the Nautical theme, while Arras and Cam styled in Casual Business)

Then a little back deck indulgence:

Anne and Matt, Paulie and Brigitte joined the mess as well and we had a beautiful evening outside. The day was busy and eventful, but the eve was a perfect time spent relaxing and laughing our butts off.  Happy birthday Dada, we love you very much.

Update: Arras Down

While I was standing in the corner thinking about what I had done to my son, my husband got sick. I didn’t notice because I too was feeling a little nauseous from the McDirty we ate for dinner, but this morning it was obvious. Arras couldn’t get out of bed, and had spent the night keeping me awake with freezing cold sweat dripping off his really hot body (totally HOT, but also feverish). There was no messing around; this morning he called in sick, I dropped Cam off at daycare and went to work. At 10am Tammy called to say that Cam was feverish and could she dose him. At 11am she called back to say he had gone to sleep after barely eating anything and I decided to cut the day short to pick him up before nap. At 12:30pm Cam and I picked up Arras and took him to the clinic where his disgusting throat was so strepsational, the doctor said he wished he’d had student docs in that day to look at the beautiful example. Arras is accompanying me on antibiotics (although he got amoxicillin and I got penecillin) and as soon as we’re all better, I’m making us all bubbles to live in. Nero too.

Dada is off on a biz trip to Toronto for a few days so Cam, Nero, and I are holding down the fort until he gets back. I’m a little nervous about handling the twins and Cameron on my own, but I think I solved today by working from home in the am and going in to the office in the afternoon.

Anyway, have a great trip Dada, we’ll miss you, and for everyone out there who isn’t in Arras’ suitcase, this is the pic I packed secretly for him so he’d remember his fam. It’s a pic from Halloween, Arras’ favourite night of the year, when Cam was dressed as a Cave-Baby and I borrowed my sister’s costume of her fave book In The Skin of  A Lion. If only you could see the Xs for eyes:
